The BPPG’s Mission is:

To promote good payment practice amongst all UK businesses & organisations, including increasing awareness of the commercial & ethical benefits for all businesses of paying suppliers promptly on agreed terms.

To produce information & guidance on use of the late payment legislation & on the issue of prompt payment.

To maintain a programme of measures that promote a better payment culture, that is supported by the business community.

The Better Payment Practice Group urge all firms to adopt a responsible attitude to paying on time.

By commiting to the following four point code...

As a business we promise to:

1.	Agree payment terms at the outset of a deal & stick to them;
2.	Explain your payment procedures to suppliers;
3.	Pay bills in accordance with any contract agreed with the supplier or as required by law; &
4.	Tell suppliers without delay when an invoice is contested, & settle disputes quickly.

The Better Payment Practice Group was formed in 1997 as a partnership between the public & private sectors. Its aim is to improve the payment culture of the UK business community & reduce the incidence of the late payment of commercial debt. This is being achieved through the delivery of a package of measures, including:

A Better Payment Practice Code, outlining the principles of good payment procedures, combined with a logo which businesses will be able to use if they adopt the Code, accompanied by a major campaign to highlight the economic reasons for paying on time.

Support for the publication of private & public sector payment performance tables.

An extensive education campaign to help businesses with late payment problems, including free guides on credit management, a website with credit management & debt recovery information & a national seminar programme on credit management.

Promoting Awareness of the Late Payment Legislation.
