CONCEPT The MegaRed is the world's first dual output external long range passive infrared detector for external operation at ranges of up to 180 metres. MegaRed is designed for use with CCTV systems to alert an operator's attention to a specific area or, with the zoned outputs, to activate positioning of a dome or pan and tilt camera system. It is also ideal for the activation of video transmission systems. OPERATION Detection is achieved by monitoring changes of far infrared levels between an intruder and the background in the detector's twenty four fields of view. The sensor's pair of twin electronic processors use dual edge sensing techniques to achieve detection and, when combined with the two four-in-line quad element sensors, provide exceptional operational stability. INSTALLATION Installation and set-up is made easy with the LRP1020 Walk tester, which allows the MegaRed to be aimed accurately and will also provide the installer with information regarding the stability of the sensor. The integral mounting bracket allows the sensor to be wall or post mounted and the head to be adjusted through a full 180 degrees. The comprehensive use of screening and decoupling techniques gives the detector high immunity to RFI and EMI interference. As a single ended device it does not require a secondary unit to be installed at the far end of the area to be protected, thereby reducing installation time and cost. APPLICATIONS The MegaRed is ideal for use as a motion detector in conjunction with CCTV. It can be used to alert an operator's attention to movement in a specific area, activate recording equipment on alarm or be used to initiate alarms from an external site connected to a central station via video transmission equipment. MegaRed can operate in total darkness and can therefore be used to simultaneously control lighting in the protected area when used with an LRP 101 Interswitch controller. This allows lighting loads of up to 1200 watts to be operated on alarm and contains an onboard photocell, lights 'on' timer and 220/240 V AC or 110 V AC to 12 V DC power supply to power the detector. The MegaRed features a unique system to minimise cable and installation costs while maximising installation distance between detector and controller. The controller provides three separate relay outputs for near detection, far detection and tamper output and can be situated either at the detector head or in the control centre. Two-core cable is required for connection between the detector and controller and carries detector power, tamper and alarm information. The controller can be situated up to 800m (2500') away from the sensor when connected by 1.5mm (AWG14) twin cable. Simple cabling and exceptional range make MegaRed the ideal choice for the protection of large sites.
